What Did Winston Churchill Do For SEO and Internet Marketing?
You might be thinking the author of this article is crazy and you might be right. One thing Winston Churchill did say that certainly has influenced a few SEO consultants that I have worked alongside is that famous quote “I have taken far more out of drink than it has ever taken out of me”. Not that this statement applies to the author of course whom I can safelly say that drink has often defeated her! Seriously though can we say that Winston Churchill gave the modern day SEO Guru or Internet Marketing Consultant any useful advice amongst his many great quotations. You may think not, but when you consider the mine field of understanding the Google algorithm and constantly fighting to get the top of Google for major keywords against sometimes what seems like millions of competitors a bit of “We will fight them on the beaches” etc soon springs to mind.
Unfortunately the biggest battle facing most SEO consultants is the chaos in their own market, we thousands of websites offering partial SEO services and various levels of guarantee and so much contradictory advice it is rapidle becoming an industry that is screaming out for regulation. The consumer website owners and businesses with websites are left completely confused and not knowing who to trust.
The reality of good SEO is that there are two aspects to the game one is the onsite and the other the offsite. Onsite site structure is critical and if you take the time to read all of Googles advice in Google Webmaster and in the Google Webmaster Blog all the answers are there, there are no great secrets follow the rules and do the work. If you do these two things until you have done more than your competitors then you will win. I meet so many business owners that are confused and mistrusting of the SEO Industry that I can only come to the conclusion that as an industry we need recognised qualifications and training, it really is time we cleaned up our act and put the bottle away. If as an industry we want trust and for our industry to become successful we need to become transparent about what we do, drop all the smoke and mirror and general dark dealing. We must be prepared to explain what we do and do it properly to professional standards that deliver consistent results!
